#1. Start a notebook about the things you really want in a community.

If you don't do this, you may move into a home and realize they don't have the amenities you were hoping for. Do you want a swimming pool? On-site restaurant? Bar? Do you want a condominium with little to no maintenance? Do you want a single-family house with a garden? #5. Visit the community several times before moving in to get a feel for the neighborhood and your neighbors.
