How to Save on Your Utility Bills

How to Save on Your Utility Bills

Bills are always going up and it gets warm this time of year, so people are always looking for ways to cut energy costs so we don't have a heart attack when we open our utility bills. Some of these tips are easy and some are a little more extensive but all can save you money.

Install a programmable thermostat. If you don't already have one, a programmable thermostat is a great way to save money as you can program the times for the heat to come on and off. This means that when you're not at the house, you're not heating the house to a certain temperature and really saving money. This can save you hundreds of dollars every year.

Consider a tankless water heater. This might be more expensive on the front end but on the back and it can save you hundreds of dollars each year.

More attic insulation. Simply by pumping and more attic insulation can save you a lot of money by keeping more of your heat inside rather than having it escape.

Caulking and weatherstripping. This is another great thing that you should do around every door and window in your house. If you feel a cold breeze coming in through vents, flashings, windowsills, and door frames, it's time to re-up that caulk.

Low flow showerhead. Most people say they don't even notice a difference but it could save you several gallons a day in your morning shower.

For the outside, syncing your sprinkler system with your smartphone can save you a lot of money by not allowing the water to simply run after it is done its job.

Xeriscaping is another way to save money in the summer and springtime by not using a lot of plants that take up water. Consider using part or all of your front yard as a rock garden, pathways, or drought-resistant trees and shrubs.

At Sun City, you can buy a house and rent it out to help cover the costs of the house (a benefit for Snowbirds). Rugg Realty can help you find tenants for your home to take off some stress of getting your house out there. There are some restrictions for the leases at Sun City, the minimum length is six months and the maximum is eight (the owner can choose to renew once the lease ends). Owners can also pay for the HOA fees and landscape maintenance so their tenants don’t have to worry about it.

Whether you are moving to Sun City full time or just want to spend the winter somewhere warm, finding a place to call home is important. Check out Rugg Realty’s full list of available properties and get ready to retire in luxury.
